SalahEddine Fellani is a comics artist and co-founder of the Alkhariqun collective. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts in Tétouan, Fellani began his professional career in 2021, taking part in exhibitions, comic projects, workshops and receiving various awards. Alongside his work as a comic book illustrator for projects with a variety of themes, the artist is developing his research into the people of the Draa-Tafilalet region where he lives. Originally from the town of Erfoud, Fellani draws on the various aspects that characterize the region’s Saharan culture. In particular, his visual work draws on elements specific to this environment, such as the architecture, nomadic lifestyle, proverbs and beliefs of its inhabitants.
“Through my illustrated stories, mainly in the form of comic strips, I strive to raise awareness of the culture of the Draa-Tafilalet region in all its contemporary richness and oral heritage. My work represents the lives, dreams and collective imagination of the people I grew up with, and who made me who I am. Often portrayed in documentaries from an anthropological angle, I aspire to create alternative narratives through the medium of comics, which relate our experiences in a familiar setting, undoing the folklorization and vulgarization of our heritage without stripping it of its diversity, charm and the exceptional magic that the Sahara breathes into it.”
Salah Eddine Fellani also teamed up with other comic authors to produce the album Almassira, published by Shouf pour la bande dessinée.
He is also does the coloring of the comic strip Alkhariqun Series – Ghoul. The artist has taken part in group exhibitions such as O’Story, Blooming Heroes, TruStory and Awal at the French Institute in Casablanca and Fez, the Cervantes Institute and Al Akhawayn University, as well as the International Comics Forum.
