Hafsa Errabboun

Hafsa Errabboun is a comic book author and co-founder of the Alkhariqun collective. With a DEUG in computer engineering from the Ecole Supérieure de Technologie, she began her career working on the creation of video games before joining Alkhariqun in 2021. The creator of Alkhariqun’s graphic charter, design and brand image, Errabboun has also produced and exhibited her own comic works in various national institutions. Her major projects include “Coup de foudre à Gueliz”, “Tumert”, “Aicha Kendicha”, “Kill Billal” and “Green Sleeves”. Given that her artistic and conceptual research focuses on the popular culture of Moroccan youth, the artist has also accompanied the process of Moroccanizing the visual aesthetics of the Shotaku Festival by producing various official illustrations combining Japanese and Moroccan youth cultures from January 2023 to the present day. In 2023, Hafsa Errabboun joined the Ecole des Beaux-Arts to further her research and receive support for the reinvention of her major project, Green Sleeves, which takes a critical look at the socio-cultural aspects of the city of Agadir.

“I’m fascinated by the little aesthetic details that permeate our culture. Sometimes they go unnoticed, and most of the time we see them as ornamental signs belonging to the past. But that’s not the case at all! Every day, I see a generation of young people making them their own, infusing them with new meaning and new life. In my eyes, they are the equivalent of oral culture, which seems to be threatened with extinction by the colossal machine of globalization. But no! Quite the opposite. We speak this global language with our own national codes, derived from the languages we have inherited and continue to transmit, each generation in its own way and according to the context in which it evolves.”
