Mustapha Oualla is a self-taught artist who began his career in 2021 with the Alkhariqun collective, winning first prize of the Blooming Heroes contest. Since then, he has been the team’s lead artist and central memeber, producing the first volume of two comic book series: Navaro and Dalil (the guide). He is also the lead artist on Ghoul, the first volume in the official Alkhariqun series. Mustapha Oualla has exhibited the comics Origines, Seht Lil, and 5 jours après at the Institut Français in Casablanca and Fès, at FIBAD, SIEL and Al Akhawayn University. The artist also ran workshops for different age groups.
Currently, Mustapha Oualla is working on the comic strip “Qui est Si Bekkai”, in collaboration with author Naima Lahbil and Marsam Editions. At the same time, he is producing the second volume of the Alkhariqun Series.
“My work is deep rooted in the landscapes of my village in Chichaoua. Nature reigns here, both in its beauty and its harshness. We have our own customs and ways of adapting, even in the absence of primary infrastructure and in the face of the drought that has gripped the region in recent years. And of course, my visual language can only include the region’s craftsmanship in all its splendor.”
